Thimithi Festival
Witness the courage, faith and endurance of Hindu devotees at Thimithi, an annual fire-walking ceremony honouring the Goddess Draupadi, a heroine of the epic poem "Mahabharata". In honour of her courage, devotees subject themselves to the test of faith by walking barefooted across a 4 m red-hot coalpit. Between the intense heat and cold chills, fire-walkers focus in deep concentration to complete the challenge miraculously unscathed as the crowd heaves a sigh of relief. Festival celebrations begin at 2am at the Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple at Serangoon Road, Little India and the fire-walking starts at 5pm at Sri Mariamman Temple. an indian i met who said he went firewalking said that it ended at 1100 hrs today, although at least 3 sources on web pages quote 5 pm for this year.
need more independent sources of confirmation. anyone working near that chinatown temple? may go down 5pm today but hate to be disappointed. at most just shoot the temple ... |

I went this morning around 10am, but still too late. Fire walking was over, but there was still alot of other stuff going on. Snapped a few pictures. I tot since some of the roads closed till 3pm the thing would be on for quite some time. Guess the lesson is, if not sure just go super super early.

the whole event started at around 3am till about 6am?... this is because the previous one ended up in fights.
