I do not have something in mind , but the gear heads work more with telescopes , start looking in that way .

Huh? Gear heads work more for telephotos??? Where did you get that from? I've been using mine with wide angle lenses for architectural and landscape photography.

Wai, I'm using the Manfrotto 410. So far, I've only came across the Manfrotto ones. Btw, read from a mag that Manfrotto has introduced the newer 405 gear head. Supposed to have a smoother and precise operation than the 410. No more info on that though.

Some people on CS were looking for this head recently also but couldn;t get them locally.

Telescopes or telephotos, they make no difference. The gear head is NOT specially made for any type of lenses or telescopes for the matter.

Do you really need the precision movement of a gearhead? Are you prepared to work a lot slower in the process of getting your images? If not, then you're better off getting the 3-way pan head which I believe is more readily available.

i never use a geared head before, I wonder how slow it is...let's say if i want to turn the head by 180 degree horizontally?? but slow a bit also not important, cos the stars are always up there.

Wonder if there is a quick release lock or something similar for you to move the head quickly, then once i spot the object i want, then i can use the knobs for fine tuning?

I have a ball head and a pan head, it cannot achieve what i want, cos once i loosen the knobs, the telescope will shift away very quickly and it is very difficult to control the direction

somemore the telescope is not light at all
