Almost no CA, quite sharp in the corners and allows a wide-zoom range to be used! Also allows focussing for nearby objects!

Buy buy buy!

The 1mb full size image cannot be d/led. Is there still vignetting in the full zoom pic?? Or just the lighting in the place? Seems to have some softening at the edges as well (see the round thing on the right, for e.g., in the full zoom pic).

No, the round thing should be out of the dof.
I just picked this anyhow for the lack of a real target.

Vignetting isn't visible after 20+mm, which is only about half way of the zoom avaliable.

Do you have anyplace where I can upload the 1MB+ pics?

Uploaded to Imagestation. Make sony pay for the bandwidth that will be used by their customers.

The apparent light fall-off on the left side of the full zoom photo doesn't seem to be due to vignetting but simply the ambient lighting conditions; you can compare it against the other photos of the same objects.

It should be about $300.

Scared you off yet?

No 2x one, unless you want to settle for a videocam quality one -- read lousy quality one. These are cheap, think less than $100.

Not so much about sharp, check the CA, distortion and light fall off too. Very impressive. The zoom range is also good.

But...ITS A SONy. $$$$$$$

I wouldn't advice it. You'll be fixing this big monster onto the lens of the 7Hi and if you're not careful, you'll spoil the lens.

For the 717, the teleconverter will be fixed onto the lens barrel.

Thanks for the info ... I saw the spec ... it is humongious ... I also managed to see the VCL-R2052 which is a X2 ... but believe that the results would not be near this Bazooka .. fully agree .... not for the 7Hi!

check out some teleconverter comparisons on the 707:
http://www.amystuff.com/lenses.htm

just remembered the A200. If you could get hold of one (from www.BHPhoto.com or elsewhere), it'll work great on the 707/717 and is much lighter and cheaper. The quality of the lens is also undisputedly good.
