So jialat... When Sony joined the force, it seems to be a bright future and foresee another giant in digital imaging market...
But now ... drastically cut the photo-imaging department... A3, 7D II, 9D, more SSM lens ........ ![]() |

Read the news carefully.... the losses are due to
1) Restructuring costs 2) Faster than anticipated decline in the film market, which they should have seen coming... Good news: 1) They will not pull out from any segment of business that they are currently in except for analogue film products. As of now that is good news. It may change in the future. 2) They are going to concentrate on DSLR market for it's very high profit margins as compared to high cost low profit consumber digicams where there is a very intense price and features war going on. And KM is in no position to fight this battle at the moment. I rather suspect the company has to rebuild its camera reputation again from the point of view of DSLRs. Unless its top-end cameras gain the respect of the pros and the general public, it's always going to be a hard steep climb to conquer the consumer digicam market. Most buyers in this category depend on hearsay and reputation rather than simply design and features. I'm rather hoping that KM will not find the digital imaging business so unattractive as to pull out. The Australian report gave a lot more details as to their bottomline. It seems that all divisions earned better than the previous year and the going into the red seems entirely due to restructuring costs and failure to anticipate the intense competition and spectacular collapse of the film market. The worrying thing is that their marketing team is really way off the mark... hopefully they can put someone with more marketing savvy into the market forecasting department... ![]() |

In a sense yes, its good news but the blunder by marketing forecast pretty worrying especially in a multinational where if they made the wrong call, it should have been very clear 6 months into their latest roadmap... they are not nimble enough to change tack when the going gets rough... they may not survive if that continues... |
