Default 24pg brochure and pictures

In case you haven't seen these:

ftp://ftp.nikon-euro.com/Brochures/X...g_Final_EN.pdf (24pp brochure)

http://www.nikon-image.com/jpn/produ...200/sample.htm

http://www.dphotojournal.com/nikon-d200/

It's just sweet to be able to use almost all its metering capabilities with my AI/AIS lenses.

I am very impressed with the camera indeed. Now that I find out that my old AI/AIS lenses can meter with the camera, even more so. The funny thing is that I still have some of my choice AI/AI-S lenses because Canon's own wide lenses are just not up to scratch for use with the 1Ds. Anyway I am a 95% of the time non-AF user.

Whether I recover or not from Nikon-phobia depends on what happens when I actually handle one, look through it, and shoot some NEFs with it.

We shall see. The 5D is still high on my list because I think the image character is something that I am much more familiar with and am pleased with.

The D200 will really kick butt in the marketplace, and not just that one other rival's. It's going to be a massive headache for ALL other brand's mid-range and pro offerings/plans. This camera is going after part of the 1dsMkIIn market as well, at half the price. Somewhat reminiscent of D1 vs Kodak of ole. It's that epoch making.

Indeed. It has a well thought out combination of features and flexibility at a price point that makes it extremely hard to ignore. Other manufacturers would have to find innovative ways to one up it in some way or another that will bring about better products for all.

This is a sign of a maturing market where merely having a couple of specifications better than the competitor is no longer enough.

Times ahead are looking bright.

I think we'll start seeing much more film-SLR like prices of old within 6 months at most a year (revised) - ok, not exactly the same but there will be significant downward price readjustments throughout the market for dslrs. The price pressure will work upwards as well as downwards across the board. All good.
