I dun think that it is really possible to say which is better as they are two quite different cameras other than what you mentioned above. E.g. max ISO for V3 is 800 while H1 is 400. V3 has hot shoe while H1 does not. Guess it really depends on what the user is looking out for. You can check the following link to dpreview that does a side by side comparison. Hope it will help. V3 vs H1

Hi Rui, Thanks for the link, its a nice side-by-side comparison of the 2 cameras
Yes I'm aware its not exactly a direct comparsion as both are from categories. But if YOU are given the choice, which would you buy? And may I also ask, why you made that decision? Last edited by michhy; 4th November 2005 at 03:53 PM. |

If I were to make a choice between the 2, I wld pick H1.
Reason: (1) love the extra zoom (2) image stabliser (3) use of easily replacable AA batts!! But ultimately, it's up to wat u think is impt in a cam... Some prefer the V3's Carl Zeiss lens, ergonomics, slightly smaller size & hot shoe...

Hi michhy,
I'll probably choose H1 over V3. It's really a preference. It offers a much bigger zoom 12x compared to V3 which is only 4 times (about 7 times if you include a teleconversion lens which cost a whopping $200 or so) It gives a big advantage esp for guys like me who like to do streets and landscape shoots. Most of the time the situations i'm in do not really require me to use very high iso values. iso100 & 200 works fine for me. Not only that 5 mp is more than enough for a good solid print on 4R photos. Unless you are those who need high resolution for big sized photos. V3 starts at 34mm and H1 starts at 36mm so both are quite equal in this aspect - can't really go wide angle unless i get a wide angle conversion lens (which is one of the reasons i got f828, it starts at 28mm which is relatively wide ).Haha, another reason is that i do not own an external flash at the moment, no need hot shoe.... ![]()

V3 for 1) Better Image Quality, 2) Flash Hotshoe, 3) CF Card?
H1 for 1) Image Stabilised Lens, 2) 12X Zoom, 3) Large 2.5" LCD |

thanks all for the tips. i think i'll lean towards the H1 for the nicer body design and also the powerful zoom lense. however, just sad its only 5mp.

saw the made in china at SLS ah?hrmm~ maybe the made in china is imported stuff? hrmm~ the ones i saw were made in japan as well. used my friend's V3, i really like it. imho: i would choose V3 for better control in terms of DOF. V3 has a better control for manual focus. Has manual White Bal as well. And well, it can shoot RAW or TIFF. It is also lighter and more...ermm~ travel friendly? (smaller) i would choose H1 for hassle free images. I have a friend that prints his H1 shots straight out of the camera. (in front of me) Colors are vibrant. Sharpness is good. (because of stablizer?) Image size wouldn't really bother me because i am not a cropper. all in all, personally, i would choose V3 because 1. i like to manipulate my images, yup, i enjoy it. 2. i need a bigger image size to play around when i do illustration from photo. ![]() ![]() |

Hello,
I would prefer V3 too for better controls. TIFF and RAW is particularly important for graphic designers to do editing. Hotshoe is a must to me...... |
