Question My D70 hospitalized due to this... :(

Just discovered such problem when shooting shutter speed slower than 5 or 10sec.

Original (no problem) 1/2.5 sec.

horizontal orientation 10sec.

Vertical orientation 30sec.

Hope NSC can rectify it.

Anyone has encounter such issue before?

a black strip??? thats really strange. Better send to NSC quickly. Suspect that there is some problem with the CCD.

ya... just came back from NSC. Don't know what's causing these.. had show them the images too.

A quick response from the engineer was aperture control of my D70 unit. However he has no specific idea what causing it too...

Let us know the diagnosis okie? Also curious to know what went wrong.. Could be shutter or CCD...

Anyway, how many shutter counts already?

hmm... I'm only a casual shooter, and only recently have keen interests in shooting nightscape, and just realized my D70 has this issue. (have been holding this body for 6 months and only shoot in daylight or with flash indoor).

shutter count? I guess less than 3K

What the....

If these are juz normal portraits I would be thinking that u shot over the sync speed (which is almost impossible). But these... Something's wrong.

BTW, izzit ur resizing or what that caused those funny colours on the clouds on the last photo?

I'm more inclined to think that the shutter unit is out of sync.

The photos were taken at 1/2.5s and 10s... almost impoosible to be out of sync with the flash unit right? Hmmm... dun think those photos were taken with flash as well.. so can't be that...

The D70 has an electronic shutter hor? Maybe something wrong with that lei? haha.. i'm guessing only...

Electronic shutter is used for high shutter speeds only right? Slow shutter shots are accompanied with a mechanical shutter.

resizing can cause the funny colors on the cloud?

This is somethings new to me. Can explain further?

Out of sync with the mirror flip possibly. To have the bottom part totally occluded like that seems to be the mirror getting in the way of the exposure. If its the aperture unit it should be a more gradual uneven exposure since the exposure times are so long.

Electronic shutter comes in only after 1/250s or so. U can test it by listening to the shutter snap. There is no audible difference in the sound after 1/250s.

Have seen this phenomenon before, attributed to a flash sync problem. Are you using a flash? If so, what flash are you using?

I used to have this prob with my old FE many moons ago.

It happened even @ shutter speeds of 1/125.

Send for repairs and they rectify the shutter.

Hi all, this happens without flash exposure lah... as it started to appear when shutter speed slower than 5 or 10sec...

That's why when shooting with long exposures then realized my unit is faulty.

Looks like you've got a faulty mirror.

If I remember correctly, the shutter opens from top to bottom so a stuck shutter will put a dark strip on the top of your photo. A stuck mirror on the other hand will block the top of the sensor, which captures the bottom of your image.

O well, NCS will take care of it.

Ya, my friends also suspecting the mirror problem. We did compared both D70, with same exposure setting... mine got an addition "tak" sound..

Hope they can find the real fault and repair it in time before my oversea trip. Otherwise,..
