simply amazing ASA1600 shots.
will give S3 a run for high ASA shooting.
as for colours and DR, might be a different case altogether. wonder how they compare?
for Nikon!

The default lcd protector from Nikon, comes with the D70/D70s as well as the D100 too but they removed the feature from D50.

Looks good, but i definitely can see lots of NR (Canon 20D look). Look at the patchy white regions.

I have no problems with noise, esp good noise. D70 is actually not too objectionable, one gotta print it out to really judge man, different labs/printer/paper react differently. I guess and hope they have an option in the D200 to change the NR setting.

If it is going to be like D2x, then yes... you will have a option to change the NR setting.

Looks pretty good, I'll have to assume that NR is on due to total lack of chrominance noise even in shadows(contrary to the poster's comment). Shows that the camera is well capable of instantly producing good quality jpegs at high isos. Very useful if you need to submit pics immediately after shooting.

I just wonder how good are the details. Say a normal wedding table pix of 16 people, whether the people's faces will be smudged when printing at S8R. For a D70 it's really ok at 1600, just a wee bit of visible "grain" for the background. I don't really care if it's 10mp vs 6mp, most probably i will shoot at 6mp setting.

Maybe I can try using 3200 and save on the flash/batt too.

For D2X, there's a default layer of NR above ISO400 shots, the options for high ISO NR only increases the layer of NR on top of the default layer.

I think almost ALL Digital camera has NR by default. It is just to what degree that the NR is applied and whether the algorithm of the NR is good. Best is to allow user to vary the degree of NR. But in order to perform the NR so quick, the NR are implemented in hardware in Digital camera. A bit more difficult to have flexible NR.
