Is lens hood needed for the 50mm f1.8D?

I'm using the Nikon HS-12 for 50 f/1.8, rare, but can still find in SG.

Yes maybe, I do get flares when i shoot with 50mm. PPCP is selling for $22 here.

have u had good shots with your current hoodless 50mm? if u find dat u may still get sun glares , den by all means get it. cos from your post u seem to want to get it for the sake of getting it, hope u get wat i mean. no offence..... (i was like dat also, trying to discourage u from making uncesary buys)

I read that HS-11 for 50mm f1.8 and HS-12 for 50mm f1.4.
So HS-12 also can on 50mm f1.8?

Oops my bad, should be HS-11, keep getting them mixed up.

HS-12 also can use on 1.8, but the correct hood should be HS-11.

As for rubber type, I no like...

i'm using the Hoya rubber type. got it for $12 at MS. i quite like it as can change to 3 different size (i meant the rubber thingy can extend to different lengths).

I use Nikon HS-7 for AFD50mm f/1.4, also rare.
