Default 5700 telephoto and wide angle lens

Hi everyone, plan to get the 5700 wide angle and telephoto lens...

Any feedback and comments regarding those two? Are they really effective and value for money?

Appreciate all comments.

Just my thoughts.

The wide angle lens is equivalent to 28mm. Not much of a use. A 24mm or lesser would be better. Besides, believe it or not, it weighs more than the camera. This enormous len is too bulky to carry around. I'll give it a miss.

CP5000 has better wide angle capabilities with its default 28mm lens. With accessories, gives you 19mm wide coverage.

Check this link for a photo comparison of TC-E15ED & WC-E80.

I owe the TC-E15ED len, in my opinion the quality of the pictures are very good. I'm very satisfied with the quality.

Thanks Viewfinder. Can u help with the following:

1. Are u able to use the tele lens without a tripod ? If yes, under what type of lighting conditions (what shutter speed and aperture)?

2. Where did u get the adapter and lens? How much did u pay for them?

3. intergrity of images, are they good?

Appreciate if u cld reply to the above...

no prob.

1) I've tried taking a shot (hand-held) indoor at shutter speed 1/60 f/4.5, full zoom + TC at 12x optical, can see alot of motion blur. 1/125 (f/4.5)is more appropriate. However, it might be different for individual. But something to note, additional weight will be added with the TC. Especially when I'm oso using the MB-E5700. My entire cam weighs near 2kg with MB-E5700, TC-E15ED and SB-28 speedlite.

2) I bought the entire set from a member in clubsnap. But len cost $210 w/o gst at CP. I'm not sure abt the price of UR-E8 tho'

3) I've uploaded a sample shot. U might want to check it out for yourself to see if it's good. Well, it's good from my point of view. (full zoom at 12x optical, picture has been resized from 2560x1920 to 1024x768)

Wow, that sample shot was using teleconverter? Can't believe the quality! Really good!

Anyway, just bought mine this evening, yet to try it. But the price is really ridiculous, as the dd is greater than ss. Even CP today is selling it at the full list price, not including GST!! Also, John is selling is at the list price w/o GST. No one is selling less than list price as the next shipment is dounch know when coming!

Nikon is really smart this time, they are restricting the no. of pcs to make dealers sell at list price...also, new stocks of the 5700 cameras are in, but I hate to ask what price.

Have u tried to use the telecon without putting the DC in a tele mode? Can it be done w/o damaging the DC and lens? The manual said that will be black areas, what do they mean? Thanks.

yes, it was taken using the teleconvertor. I've taken a shot of a friend (sorry can't post it) with the TC too, wow .. it's even better. I was impressed as that was the first day I'm using the TC.

Just mount it, and u can see it for yourself. haha, just like viewing thru a keyway. Point to note, u need not extend your lens to full 8x to get a shot with the TC. As long as u can zoom until the black areas are gone, u can start shooting and it will not affect the picture quality.

Enjoy your new purchase.

actually there one way to tell if the shot is taken with TC. Without TC, the smallest f/stop on 5700 is f/4.2 at 8x zoom. But when the TC is mounted, it will become f/4.5. Check out the EXIF data of my shot, it's f/4.5.

The blackareas are vigneting which you get because the teleconverter is in front of the lens not at the mount point. So the cameras own lens will have a wider angle of view if not extended to full zoom. So the black part is part of the view of the extension tube and the teleconverter lens if the objective part is small.

Thanks everyone who has contributed. I understand what is meant by "vigneting" after the explanation given and I also tried it today.

Will be conducting "trials" on the TC soon to see if I am fully satisfied with my new purchase...

Viewfinder, can ask what bag u are using to carry the TC lens?

I am currently using a Lowepro something AW 50, and it is getting too small for my 5700, DX 50, and no more space for my TC lens and adapter...

Got to spend more money I guess...

Hmmm.....there isn't any electrical connection on the Tele-convertor so how can the camera detect it's presence? Did you check your other shots?

If you want a shoulder bag and cost is a concern, Nova 4 should be able to fit your equipment..... if you want a backpack style, try the Orion Trekker, which has a separate compartment for your barang barang.

i'm using Nova 4 to contain my CP5700 with MBE-5700, HR-E5700, UR-E8, TC-E15ED and SB-28 Speedlite. Nicely fit, but dun think will have anymore space for another cam.

tat's rite, there isn't any connection but based on three sample shots that I've taken .. the aperture shown was f/4.5. Without adjusting any setting, upon removal of the TC it will change to f/4.2

Thanks for the recommendation. Just went to those 2nd hand cam dealers and got a nice hard leather "container" for S$5. Fits my TC lens with adapter just nice.

As for connection, I have the same thing, u fit the TC and the f stop changes, maybe there is some sensor inbuilt? Anyway, works well for me, so don't care abt it so much...
