As some of us may be aware, in Singapore, the Canon 5D is priced nearly S$1,000 more than the street price in the U.S. or Japan (eg S$6,500 vs US$3,300?).
Do you think that Nikon Singapore will adopt the same kind of pricing strategy to rip off the early birds? By rip off, I mean pricing significantly higher than the street price in other benchmark countries. |

First, you worry that new DSLRs will have bugs...
Then you're disappointed that D200 is manufactured in Thailand... Now you're thinking maybe Nikon Singapore will rip off the early birds... I think you should stop thinking / worrying too much... ![]() Last edited by timlim; 2nd November 2005 at 04:14 PM. |

Don't think so... I believe that the D200 will be priced around the same as the 20D when it first came out (<S$3000) and at such a price, it is going to shake up the market like the D70 previously did. Great for us consumers.

Nope, don't think so they will price it so high. Please do not look at prices in Australia as a benchmark, that is definite for sure.

I think you worry too much. If ever you decided on what camera to get I guess the next thing you will be worried about is 'will the price go down', 'should I wait for the next promotion?' etc ect.
There is no such thing as the best deal cause there will always be a better one. No best cam cause there will always be a better one. You get what I mean. Last edited by jbma; 2nd November 2005 at 06:41 PM. |

Frankly I woun't be suprise if Nikon SG sells it at a higher price than other countries. Remamber the D2H just before and even after the launch of D2Hs? Other countries like US and even Aust. are selling it at around S$2700/- but SG still selling at S$4K+, just a few hundreds lower than the D2Hs.
At the end of the day it is no use worring what the street price will be. If you need it, you'll get it even if you have to save for it. It's more a matter of is it a "need" or "want". For those in between ie: can't decide to get a back up or to upgrade the main cam, well we can make a choice of either going on parta diet or busting the bank account ( and risk the warth of the wify). ![]()

Last edited by drektster; 3rd November 2005 at 02:13 AM. |

Since you already know the 1st batch of buyers usually get rip off, then why still go for it.
Buy later and save $$. Staying ahead with technology, usually you will be paying a premium for it. The best is go to B&S to hunt for 2nd hand older model when the D200 role out. Then you might be able to get some very good deal. ![]() |

I believed that, you should consider Australia buys your camera. Calculated adds on the plane ticket also to take into account. Camera in our country because is expensive, that is because the local market does not have foreign big. In Japan, US, even Australian nearly each each household all has the camera. But, some people also must the friend borrow the camera to travel. Obviously, sells our expensive reason is not no. Adds on, each brand all has own proxy. The proxy is responsible to guarantee in the time the service. Certainly is not including the camera which buys in the foreign country. If, the camera main corporation in local has the subsidiary company. That camera service on acts by the subsidiary company. That was the so-called international written guarantee. This kind of guarantee represented you to be able to purchase that brand in the world any country the camera. Said really, very many brands all despise the local market. Therefore, we buy dear the camera is because the market too is small. (Subsidiary company also must pay shop to rent) Is just like said that, 10 year ago Brunei, the price index all is above local 2 times. (Because market too is small) therefore, the Brunei people all love the Singapore shopping. |

Imagine you're a shop, Nikon asks you to take 200 pieces. They don't make it standard across the board every shop lowest price must be Xxxx. Then everybody starts selling at cost price, then end up, Nikon doesn't take care of their retailers. It's not RIP off btw, I find that's a pretty obscene word to use. Its still lower than RRP, but definitely not what the price would be in a few month's time. |
