    Been there, done that, twice.

Video cam on tripod, on the side cabinet beside the bed, no medical equipment obstructed. Camera hand held, used flash, but try not to point the flash into the eyes of the doctor/mid-wife, they may get irritated. Most babies are already blinded by the naturally bright lights around, flash makes not difference, and my two children seems to have very good eyesight now, even with multiple flashed from day zero until now.

As to panic, blood-fear, kelam-kabut, fainting, shaky hands, screaming, etc, it is really the individual, nothing much we can help you. I happen to be able to multi-task, remain cool under pressure, no fear of blood, and very-well wanted to deliver my children by myself (while shooting, of course!).

    All the best, digitalbuff.

use point and shoot, if you faint and drop the camera not so heart pain.

normally shoot right after birth, before that you will be holding your wife's hand and she will be cursing and swearing in pain and blaming the whole affair on you once baby is out, she will be so comfortable, grab the cam and start shooting. Easy as ABC...heehee.

Gleneagles: the delivery suite is big enough for you to:

    • Place a tripod
    • Have a seat and relax when you can't take blood
    • Go to toilet if you feel like vomitting after seeing blood

In another words, it's big enough for you to take pictures/video. They allow pictures, but you may like to check with your wife's gynae. Most importantly, get your wife's permission first!

Congratulations, and have a good time with your wife and baby! Share with us the pics you've taken.

    This is.... the world.

Yes, with a little less sarcasm, self centered-ness, more consideration, no wars & weapons, this world would be nirvana.

Look at it this way, this is the only time where you can call him anything, blame him for anything, ask for anything or curse at anyone and HS will still say the magic words "YES DEAR". Enjoy it while it last

i took photos during my son's delivery at Gleneagles recently. there is a sign on the door to the delivery ward that explicitly says "no video", but the gynae may not mind so do check with him/her first.

you will probably be asked to support your wife when she pushes, and things move very fast once the baby's head comes out. so keep your camera primed and slung on your shoulder for quick access.

tripod is probably a bad idea as you'll need to reposition yourself often while the midwife/nurses/gynae go about their work.

if you have a shot in mind, please discuss with your gynae beforehand. this prevents confusion during the delivery and the staff will want to move fast to minimize complications.

    congratulations and good luck!
