    Understand that MPs are also indemnified of their comments/speech in parliament too? Meaning no defamation sue possible?

    Yes you're right. It's a parliamentary privilege that exist in most parliaments in the world. It's not unique to Singapore. The idea is to facilitate free debate without the fear of being threatened with a defamation suit

    There is a select committee called the Committee of Privileges which looks into complains on any breaches of the parliamentary privileges. Almost all parliamentary systems would have this checking system.

    The system itself is neutral. It is the people within the system and running the system that makes the system functional or dysfunction (abuses it).

    Hard to abuse, if the parliamentary people are honest and open.

    If u got a corrupt govt, then its different story.
