Default nikon battery

would the camera show nothin on the top LCD when the battery EN-EL3 is depleted?
not even how many shots are left?
cos i have a fully charged batt dat i juz put in and took about 10 plus shots on sun. later dat nite i may have let it run the whole nite after transferring my pics over to the pc. i didnt realize if my cam was still on or not, but i do remember the usb cable still being both on the camera and the pc.
juz now, i tried to take some lightning shots but when i tried to switch on my D70, it failed to start (does not show how many shots left also) thinking dat i had forgotten to take the batt out. i put in another depleted batt, but it seems to power up fine with the remaining shots shown.
anyone care to enlighten or am i being paranoid. in the meantime, i will look for the PDF manual, seem to have lost mine

If the battery has dried up, nothing will be shown on the LCD.

U should always carry a spare battery, digital camera live-and-die by the battery.
