D200 made in Thailand!!!

Bad news, D200 is made in Thailand, and not Japan!

I found out when I was reviewing the Dpreview site (www.dpreview.com). Check out the pic showing the battery compartment. It says "Made in Thailand"

it might cost alot more if production is in japan instead.

my D70 also made in thailand,after the FCP board? changed,it has been working fine.

It's just that it lessens the "feel good" factor. Hopefully Nikon QC standards still hold, but it's like buying a Merc or BMW made in Korea...etc. It's understandable to manufacture lower end cameras in 3rd world countries, but I was expecting more from the D200/prosumer range.

Well, on the brighter side, it's a lot more cost effective. Nearly 40% less than the price of the Canon 5D...

i tink the made-in-jepoon syndrome too deeply poisoned some minds... that made outside japan = lesser quality... which is bull...

if i have an issue, it'll be whether this new system allow me to do more things than what i have already ... feel good? having shot a good picture makes me feel good

anything bad abt nikon cameras made in thailand in the past? The D70 is quite problematic but i think that has got to do with the parts, than the manufacturing place.

Yup, and at the end of the day its the pic that matters; not that the type camera. Needless to say the origin of the camera.

made in thailand is a negative stereotype
but..in general shouldnt be much of a problem unless what u are going to buy turns out to be a lemon

both my 24-85 and 18-70 lenses are made in thailand, and they give me tack sharp pics. and no problems with the bulit or anything too..

d70 also the same. my dad's set of d70 no probs too...

and i too have no problems with items from thailand. most important is that they have to be cheap lah..

Ermm... so? Its still under warranty right? Its not like you're going to hold on to your camera for more than 2 years. My two cents worth.
