    Smile Chingay Parade Singapore 2016.

    Running for the 44th edition, this year’s Chingay Parade will be themed Lights of Legacy, Brighter Singapore.Held from 19-20 February, the parade this year will be anchored by the People’s Association Youth Movement (PAYM), which will represent 800 youth performers atop a majestic float. Spectators can also expect to see a 66-metre LED flying dragon.

    Speaking at the launch of the Chingay Parade, People’s Association chief executive officer Ang Hak Seng said the aerial illuminated flying dragon performance symbolises a brighter future for Singapore. He added that it was apt to open with PAYM, as the youth are representatives of Singapore’s future, and symbolise a youth-led nation for the next 50 years.“It is the beginning of our new chapter to SG100,” he said. At the launch, Chingay 2016 chairman and exco and People’s Association Arts and Culture group director Nah Juah Hng said, “This year’s Chingay parade is special because there will be a representation of 50 parade contingents, both locally and internationally.“

    The 10 countries participating in this year’s Chingay Parade include Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, China, Japan, Russia, South Korea, Taiwan, and the US. The parade will see 8,000 performers, and is expected to draw about 160,000 spectators over two nights.
    The second part of the festival will be held on 21 February at the Bishan - Ang Mo Kio park, unlike previous years where it has been held at Orchard Road.
