    The light was too harsh in an environment where the canopy of trees block out most of the light. Difficult place to shoot. Thanks for your comments and your time.

    Over exposed because the metering was done on the monkey (which was very dark) without exposure compensation. Same thing happened to my zoo shots too.

    Just to give you an idea, I got bit by a monkey that very day when I took this picture. Also, I did try some shots with fill in and the colors come out very flat. The natural tones are all gone, not appealing at all.

    Maybe take the photograph from a lower position? The angle isn't very appealing. Or was the position not avaliable? (i.e. taken off a stage)

    Did you try to bounce the flash off surrounding objects and how was the effect ? (not sure if you were surrounded by monkeys )

    Would reflectors be useful & less irritating for shooting animals? Please comment.
