Default Robberfly

Hi all,
Capture this Robberfly around my neighbourhood yesterday. There are several of them but unable to spot even one with prey or with a partner.

S180mm, F22, 1.5 sec on MLU and AP, OB -1.0 comp on Flash bracket, Uncropped and PS CS2 processed.

Which one you think is better?
Comments and suggestions are most welcome.

Kind regards,
Rey

Beautiful shots. I like the color and detail.

Both look similar.

Johnny,

Thank you very much for your comment.
I remember your advise to compensate.
To me they also looks similar but one of my friend tell me #1 is warmer than #2.
Now the next target is to look for a mating RF

rgds,
Rey

Amazing, the shutter speed is 1.5 sec, but your picture is still sharp.

I like the 2nd pic, seems a bit brighter on the eyes and front thorax of the robberfly.

Danny,

Thanks for your comment.

That's the advantage of MLU. Very useful at very slow Shutter to prevent camera shake. Also use a Cable release.

Rey

You're welcome. Usually I will look out for brighter background (esp. far end green patch of grass on the slope) or you can try to use a slave flash to bright up the background. I believe it will look better. Agree with you, first shot looks slightly warmer color and it looks better and nicer.

I have spotted matting RF before but they are quite sensitive.

Thanks for your tips.
Actually, the b/g is of Green Grasses but on the Dark tone. Even I use a Slow Rear Curtain doesn't help much to render a green B/G. Yes planning to Buy a Slave Flash but not too soon.

One time saw a Mating RF posted, but not captured well and the b/g was cluttered. Think somewhere in Pasir Ris Park.

Did you manage to have a record shot shot when you see them?

No. They flew away when I spotted them.

So far the best mating RF shot I have seen was taken by mplonsky

Nice shoots. But to me the BG is a bit dark. Saw your previous post, also has the similar result.

May try PS to bring up the BG.
