Yup I had encountered. That time mine not only mould. The glass plate dropped off... So I opened up the scanner and clean away the mould. After that use those 3M tapes to stick back the glass. And it was back to new again.

Happened to me too. 1 epson and 1 Umax. In both, it was possible to disassemble the scanner (carefully) and clean the glass. Reassembly was NOT real easy but was managed without any special tools. Clearly the success of this will vary with the exact model.

I have a cheap lexmark all-in-one that broke... so they did a 1:1 exchange. Obviously they won't give me a new one... but the one I got back has a bit of fogging from outgassing!

And yes, I have had some mould problems before on my old HP scanner.
comes with the climate we live in I suppose.
Even if mould isn't a problem... outgassing which will cause a bit of fogging will be.
