GoPro does not have a strong product aimed at the mass market consumer. It's product range is mainly niche and thus priced to capitalize on that. The only consumer level one GoPro Hero is a very bare bones thus giving competitors a chance to have a slice of the larger mass market.

Almost 2 years ago, there were clear signs things was changing for them. They were slow to innovate and reach out to wider consumer markets. Much were written about it as tech observers noted as more and more players pop into the scene with products as good if not better. But GoPro felt they were way established to be challenged. Then when bigger established brands from the tech world jump in with unlimited fund and an establish consumer base to tap a line extension to, you know you have problems just on the horizon.

In the tech business, that is just months away from the first bang in internet time frame. You snooze , you lose mentality. More so if your company makes or die financially, if you are a public company. When brands like Apple say they want to get in on your product market, you know you are in deep dodo if you have nothing in your spare pocket. That's business evolution.

Even a year back when you google about action cams, look at how many are out there. They tried to do something as someone pointed out but it was too late.Always thought their product was a tad overpriced when I was thinking of getting one.

    A good photo's 45% you, 45% practice & 10% equipment. A bad photo share the same ratio.

Now even Xiaomi action camera is as good as GoPro and only cost a fraction price of GoPro.

So why would people buy GoPro?

Now we see the 'real' value of GoPro company/product/brand...as I said over valued over hyped. Nothing new to see here except for maybe having a look at Xiaomi action camera.
