Within reasons for authentication and on act of good faith yes. If not then what? To identify your dead body when found?
    A good photo's 45% you, 45% practice & 10% equipment. A bad photo share the same ratio.

    Well almost everyone.

Especially the Mama-san in certain establishments where she needs to confirm you're old enough to use the service.

If you don't want to show IC, can also show this card, it is THE "IN" thing nowadays.

They need to record the name and maybe contacts of the person returning the goods, for audit purposes.

If there is no record of names, there will be a loophole for fraudulent activities within the company.

Now u understand? Pls explain to your son, so that he will not grow up ignorant.

If u not happy abt giving IC, u can offer to give driver licence. It's the same, except if they want your registered address, then u have to declare it.
Thank you for the advice. The defective item with the receipt, are they not enough.

Auditors don't look at physical defective products. They need to see proper records.

U wait till u run your own company, u will get what I mean. Will you allow staff to just refund company money without records of who is the customers, who received the money, who signed for it?

There are still a lot of companies which still record NRIC for all kind of purposes. They are either ignorant of the compliance requirement with the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA). When they collect the NRIC info, they need to show the reason why they do so and do not have an alternative means. They also need to store and protect the the NRIC data properly.

More information here : PDPA Guidelines on NRIC numbers
