If there is one book that you have read and would recomend it highly to reader here..
Which book would that be? Do state the area that the book covered eg macro, portraits, general, exposure, B&W etc. |

I'll be greedy and vote for two:
1). Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson. Covers the basics: metering, aperture, shutter speed, film and special techniques. It's out of print but available at Borders, and NLB has the accompanying CD-ROM . Read the reviews here: Review for Understanding Exposure 2). Shoot: Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about 35mm Photography edited by Liz Harvey. Contains advice and photos by 14 leading photographers. Covers equipment, film, composition, exposure, light, color vs b/w, subjects & specialties (wildlife, nature, travel, people, fashion, still life), b/w printing and shooting & selling stock photography. Review for Shoot When it comes to magazines, Practical Photography, a UK publication, has lots of in-depth tips for beginners and photo clinics too. HTH. BTW, I sent u a PM some time ago. Did u receive it? ![]() |

Bryan Peterson's Learning to See Creatively covers composition while his other book covers exposure. Lots of examples in form of coloured photographs. If you're looking for a book that covers both, try Shoot.
Private messaged u about going for photo shoot together. Check your PM box again. |

Hi,
I have a strong bias towards travel photography, so here's my favourite book on the subject : Richard I'Anson, 2000, Travel Photography - A Guide to Taking Better Pictures (Lonely Planet Publications). It's a relatively compact book and it covers equipment, techniques as well as ideas for taking travel photographs creatively. cheers, senhwei Last edited by senhwei; 27th October 2002 at 07:26 AM. |

Look for John Shaw's books on Nature:
- John Shaw's Nature Photography Field Guide (Nature) - John Shaw's Closeups in Nature (Closeups, Macro, Nature) - John Shaw's Landscape Photography (Landscape) The best way to start reading these books is to borrow them from library (in fact, I had borrowed more than 20 different photography books). The library indeed has a great collection of good photography books that you can find. Also you can check from amazon to get the review of photography book, then search the National Library for the book. |

Mountain Light, Galen Rowell. A very non-technical book that deals with what matters.

Most of the good books are scattered in different community libraries around Singapore. It is very difficult to go down to a certain libraries to look for the book. Some more by the time you reach the library, someone might have borrowed the books you wanted. If you happened to live near Tampines or Woodland, these libraries contains more photography books than others. So if you do not like the idea of reserving books, you might want to head for the 2 libraries mentioned above. |
