Whats your budget like for that lens? If you willing to pay more, why not consider a 100-400mm coz it's alot more versatile and you will have the IS functions.

What do you want to know?
If it is a comparison of the 100-400 vs the 400/5.6, then it's really a personal preference of versatility vs sharpness. For sharpness, the 400/5.6 is unmatched. For AF, the 400/5.6 is awesome esp if you set the focus limiter switch to 8.5m and beyond. I personally like this lens very much esp for birding Some well taken sample shots of a green heron by someone using a 10D to show the sharpness of this lens http://bobbyz.smugmug.com/photos/33425855-O.jpg http://bobbyz.smugmug.com/photos/33425857-O.jpg http://bobbyz.smugmug.com/photos/33425840-O.jpg http://bobbyz.smugmug.com/photos/33425842-O.jpg http://bobbyz.smugmug.com/photos/33425844-O.jpg http://bobbyz.smugmug.com/photos/33425845-O.jpg http://bobbyz.smugmug.com/photos/33425848-O.jpg http://bobbyz.smugmug.com/photos/33425851-O.jpg http://bobbyz.smugmug.com/photos/33425837-O.jpg |
