Default Film can last ages if stored in a freezer?

Hi all, I came across an advise from people that if you store your newly purchase slide films in a freezer it will last ages. Is this true or not. Anyone has any knowledge on this?

This means that even though the expiry date had already long expired, the slide film still usable, in good condition?
