Default Nikon Coolpix 4200

I just got the coolpix 4200 and housing. Tried using it a couple of times and find that everytime i take a pic, i have to wait very long in order to be able to take the 2nd time. I think the camera is like recharging the flash or something (correct me if I'm wrong).

Any idea what I can do about it? I think I have to wait about 5 secs before i can take teh next pic. Which I feel that, by the time the cam is ready, the subject might have moved away.

a few possible reasons i can think of:

1. You are not using a fast speed CF card
2. The camera has a long write time
3. you are shooting RAW

2 and 3, you can try buying another camera. For 1, try a high speed card and see if the same problem persist. I presume the battery is fresh and fully charged.

Anyone else can chip in?

The "wait very long" is because the camera needs to write to the memory card and recharge the flash, Nikon decided to freeze the camera during these 2 actions, its the same problem for Coolpix 4100, 4200, 5100, 5200 digicam.

er.. it uses a SD card,

i think number 2 applies

number 3, i don't think it writes in raw though..

when i shoot raw my camera takes about 6sec to get ready for the next shot. maybe try shootin in burst mode or multishot mode?

Most of the coolpix camera are slow untill you want to throw the camera away.

I'm using a coolpix 5400, the camera is rock solid, it takes good pic but the speed puts
me off, i did check on this forum, the guys here said no point in getting a high speed card
when your camera IO system too slow.

The write time is 8secs for a FINE pic quality pic. I shoot in RAW mode @ times by the time it writes the file you can sleep.

I did buy another camera for my GF, Panasonic it uses SD card the speed @ which it writes
pics is amazing.

This is one reason for me upgrade to DSLR. may be next year

It is true that the Panasonic digicam is a lot faster than Nikon digicam in write speed.
