printing photos

Hi guys, need some help here

was reading an article on printing with ink jet photo printers
something about resolution requirements

never printed my own photos before and never send to a digi lab printing b4
but judging by the write up, even for a 5inch by 3.5 inch pic, we need 180+ dpi resolution?

the normal shots at fine mode got so good quality??? i really dun noe how to interpret the numbers, sorry. cos my conclusion so far is that if u wanna print, your shots should be at least in TIFF mode is it???

oh so that means that unless i shoot in TIFF(at least) with my fz5, i wouldnt get a relatively good 5 by 3.5 inch picture print rite?

then the other thing is that when i change the resolution of a pic with PS, i am jus preparing it for a print rite? but since its taken at jpeg fine quality, does it means i already have too little details to work with???

afraid i no expertin these area
300dpi usually would be recommend by the lab...
so far i usually send my pics direct to the lab for printing..this dpi300 /180 thingy never came across my mind

so far i had no prob printing 4r using my 2 meg pix camera
300dpi or 180dpi

FZ5's 5Mpixel is: 2560 x 1920
divided by 300DPI= 2560/300 x 1920/300
= 8.53" x 6.4"

I don't see why a tiff file can't print a 5 inch by 3.5 inch pic. Even I blow it up to A4 size printing, the quality still quite good.

Just for reference. You don't need a very high res files to print 4-5R.

thanks, cos when i see the pics after Photo shop, they put the resolution as 72dpi, i thought gone case liao, cannot print

i dunno abt photos la but usually we print A3 size and above 300 dpi min.

read it jus now, have the same experience with you last time, walking across the pedestrian crossing and have a stupid driver trying to make his turn from the other side early, me and my friend had to react to save our lives........ but lucky we're not hurt
