hi folks,
need some recommendations for WA prime lenses varying from 14mm to 22mm with F1.x apertures. need to be sharp a biggest aperture (F1.x). I'm open to any brand. i need it for close quarter shooting kids indoors without flash. Thanks in advance! Last edited by Luke; 14th October 2005 at 12:59 AM. |

Why not try the new Sigma DC lens 30mm 1.4, it's been compared extensively in alot of forums like dpreview, apparently it is very sharp even wide open. However it is usable only on DSLRs with a 1.6 crop factor, but it gives a nice 50mm perspective on DSLRs . |

Below 20 might cause distortions already, unless you're talking abt the subject being a tiny part of the composition, like a huge wedding group shot. In fact, many photogs feel that distortions occur even for 50, and prefer mid-tele/tele for portraits.
I recommend 35mm 1.4L. Never used that lens myself, but had been drooling over the photos taken by this lens for as long as I can remember. Last edited by shinken; 14th October 2005 at 10:34 AM. |

Both the EF 24 and 35/1.4L are great choices. I personally prefer the 35 but that's because of its slightly smaller size and my preference for that focal length, they're both optically very similar.

Agreed wth Terence, Canon EF 35mm f1.4L USM is the one to consider. Sharp & contrasty.

Alternatively, get the 35mm F2. Very sharp lens and perform well in low-light conditions. Built not as good as the 35mm F1.4L though, but almost 5 times cheaper.

between 14mm -22mm theres only the 20/1.8 Sigma to recommend. the 24/1.4L is also a good choice and 2mm isnt really that much of a difference. The main thing would probably that the Sigma is cheaper
