Damn I missed Melbourne since I came back 8 years ago. Still longing to go back when opportunity and finance allows. Hopefully next year my dream would realise.

I recently stayed at the Kingsgate Hotel which is along King Street in the heart of the Melbourne CBD. 3-4star establishment, AUD$100 per night for queen sized bed. Would seriously recommend this place as for it's price it's the best value around, spent quite some time online looking.

They change towels and clean the room daily, and the best part is the showerhead is nice and big, so when you shower, very shoik. Make sure you get the rooms with bathroom attached as there are budget rooms going at a lot less, but inside not as good.

Location wise, very good, which is why I decided on this place. Walking distance to the city centre for shopping and loads of food, also to the casino and Vic Market. Also can walk to some famous gentlemen's clubs very nearby, heh. Spearmint Rhino and Goldfingers anyone? The tram lines run just one street away, and from there you can get almost anywhere in Melbourne. Check out St Kilda, Chapel Street as well as Richmond. Also nearby is the Spencer Street bus station where you can take the Skybus to and from the airport for AU$13 one way, prob the most cost effective way if travelling 1 or 2 persons.

Do checkout the Great Ocean Road while you're there. Worth the one day trip out. Melbourne is a very dynamic city, with some old world charm as well.
