Default Is it a good starter camera FZ5

HI all,
I have been using point and shoot camera from my Canon A10 for 5 years
Nokia handphone should have more pixel than my A10 by now.

It time for an upgrade.
If my budget as around $500, and I want to try meddle around with some knobs and manual controls. Should I go for a FZ5? Read from a thread that it selling at $630/-
Where should I go to get the best deal in Singapore

Thanks guys

I started off with the FZ5. It is a good cam to start with. The Leica lens is very sharp. However i find the size rather small after a while.

If only it can have has an exposure more that 8 secs....

i was thinking to get a Fz5 but still uncertain whether to get the black or silver colour.

Will the silver colour have difficulty buying extra lens in future?

Er, what kind of extra lens are you talking about? The camera comes with a good Leica lens already.

er... imho and my image comparison, FZ5 gives sharper images at 420mm.
overall image quality is better.
FZ20 u need to spend a bit of time in photoshop.
FZ5, i rarely needed to edit images.

Do you need manual focus? 90% of the people don't use manual focus. do you?

Focus on the FZ5 is easily the fastest (bar the FZ30). it does very well in low light too. FZ20 can't compare. and definitely not FZ10. i find it faster than some of the $300 - $800 dSLR lens that I'm using now.

FZ20 u get to use a manual flash. however... if you've stuck so long with your A10, you won't find any limitations with the internal flash.

If your budget is stuck tight at $500, then i suggest get what your budget will allow.
If u can magic out some $$, I'll suggest you go for the FZ5.

If i need another camera urgently, and i've only got $500, I WILL go and borrow $150 to get myself a FZ5.

Totally agreed with Unseen .. U really will not regret getting FZ5 ... if your budget really stuck with $500 .. try find it in B&S .. maybe someone might want to sell of thier FZ5 and get a new FZ30 ..

but remember no flash hotshoe with the FZ5. it is important for those who want to have bounceflash for doing good quality shots indoors. so think about what you need.

if no need for external flash, you can consider the FZ5, if not, look elsewhere.

to me i will get FZ5 if i know i seldom use external flash, need the very fast focusing and to have a smaller camera.
or
i will get the FZ10 or FZ20 if i know i always use external flash and manual focus and want to hold a bigger camera.

Thanks for all the review.
My budget wasn't stuck at $500.
Just I will be happy to part with $500, and will heartache abit at $800/-

if it like $600++ still Ok.
But what the shopping mall that sell this camera?
And how much should I bargain incase I got CHOP!
What the trend like, should I ask for any add on, or come with any memory cards?

Sorry, so many questions.
Thanks!

If i'm not wrong it's about $630.
around there lar.. i dun buy FZ5s often, so sorta lost track of price le..
LOL go mscolour, go AP, go Cathay. but do it with a equote.
after u got your equote, i suggest try go song bros at sim lim see if they can do any better. Past experience is that they can and they would do better @ similar price or better price, with same or more goodies.

even if they don't... AP is just next to it!!
hahaa...
