I find that alot are under exposed and blur. I think you are using low shutter speed if not wrong. Wat is your iso?

1/280 f2.8 Exposure wise is okay. mostly is motion blur, but that's the max I could go for shutter speed. Sports pics don't usually look at super sharp pics IMO

i'm totally blunt at times, so here's another moment...
SAFFC keepers dives for a shot ![]() And manages to save the screamer ![]() * missed a moment. dirty backgrounds with too much H-TWO-O promo. Midfielders tussle for the ball ![]() * totally out of focus. i think the Mk II can do A LOT better than my 10D. SAFFC defender goes down from a shove by ANFC striker ![]() * if you can, crop EVEN tighter. too much action, don't know what to look at. Tangled up ![]() * distracting background, especially that of the squatting player. |

SAFFC striker trying to shake off his defender
![]() * focus is off. the focus was on the albirex player's leftfoot. focus is focus - either it's sharp, or not. no "nearly there's"... A hard strike which was cleared by a defender ![]() * too much blank space in the frame, showing backside of shooting player AND cropping off keeper. what are you trying to imply in the shot? Taking a drink after his equalising goal ![]() * no comments. Clearing to safety ![]() * too much empty space in the frame. |

some may think i'm being brutal with my comments, but if this is the standard from a 1D Mk II, i think i'll probably boycott my current canon system and get nikon instead.

I agree with that drudkh, and i appreciate sehsuan's comments on those shots. Most of them mirror mine. But the comment on selling the system for the D2X...well... personally I think it's the person behind the camera which matters most. I mean, I saw some soccer shots with a 7D + 300 f/4 which came out much better recently, and the 7D is nowhere nearly as high-specced as the 1DMkII or D2X.
Cheers =) QX |

i went to this match last night too but i'm not posting any shots. that would be my 4th visit to the s.league matches and i've learnt to take note of a few things.
first of all, know the range of your lens, at which part of the field gives the best lighting and a just nice framing to a slightly loose framing. not just trigger even when the actions are way too far and you'll just crop it when you post process them, quite a bad practise but "seomtimes" there's a no choice situation. second, predict where the actions will be. for example the goal keeper going to serve the ball to half field, take note of the players getting ready to do header, point your lens there and pre-focus, so you'll have a higher chance to catch the action when the player really heads the ball. third, position yourself so that you can easily open your left eye (assume you see through the VF with your right eye) to track the actions. if you're in a wrong position, you'll keep missing good actions. using a long lens with a big hood kind of hinder your sightings very often. needs a lot of practise which i am still doing and learning. hope these are helpful. |

evenstar.... I think you need a faster shutter speed and some practise in AF. Some pix are really outta focus. And do watch the background.
Never blame your gear as well.... ^^ |

as succinctly put by the others, never blame the equipment. i still wonder at times how the veterans survived using manual focus... and got great telling shots. there must be something that doesn't match up to the equation.
btw, i'm not working in this line, but as Jed mentioned quite a few times, you have to strive to get professional quality, behaviour etc. all that can be done regardless what profession you're in. ![]() |
