Default types of IR filter

Hi I'm new to IR. Can anyone recommend or list the types and brands of IR filters? Intending to use a 17-40 F4 lens or the 24-105 F4 lens

Looks like its another Canon user? R72 is safer. Tried using Cokin P007 and Eward Long Pass on 20D and it failed to Customised White Balance.

No not true...
There is Cokin P007, Tiffen #87, Lee Filter #87, Wratten 87 & 87C, B+W 092 & 093, Heliopan RG780, Hoya R72 & RM90....

Just that locally it is easier to get Hoya R72, Cokin P007 and Lee Filter #87.

I guess one of the reasons that R72 is popular is because it is relatively cheap.
Although based on price, P007 is cheaper. But it is only available as a rectangular sheet without the filter ring. It is possible to cut it into a round shape and fit it into a filter ring (which I have done ).

Cokin filters are made of plastic and are easily scratched
Do you mean those CD sleeves? Not too good as only one side has the soft material...
Try to use the original casing that come with it. (But the original casing too big Maybe can stuff microfibre cloth to stop filter from rattling )

well I own a few Cokin filters and usually I use those normal tissue roll tissue papers to wrap them up individually and slot into CD transparent sleeves for easy carrying around while shooting outdoor, otherwise I slot them into a normal CD sleeve pouch.

For yr opinion, will tissue papers cause any mishaps to the plastic filters?

Hmm, tissue might still scratch the filters That's y I suggested using the microfibre cloth...
Cokin should redesign the filter box. My newly bought P007 had a scratch on it

You got a point there on the microfibre cloth to protect the plastic filters. But how did yr new IR filter got scratched? Regarding the microfibre cloth to wrap each plastic filter, cheap and nice material quality should be nice right? Otherwise gonna spend alot at the end of the day. And the bigger the cloth the higher the price. So do you have any good brand to recommend?

Don't know how it got scratched Just took out from case and notice the scratch. Luckily scratches don't appear on photos for IR

Think those spectacle cloths should do the trick
Or you can buy the Matin Micro Fibre cloth from Perly, only $5.

Very soft material. (But for cleaning filters, still prefer Lenspen )

May I know how much does one Lenspen microfiber cloth cost? Is the material slightly harder? Where can I get it?

It's not a cloth, more like a pen
Just bought Digiklear from CP for $10. Think TK Foto sells it cheaper..

Just bought the Hoya R72 58mm filter at John 3:16 for SGD48. Works great on the H1.

Can show some of the sample shots of the R72 on the H1. May interest other Sony users.
