Some new Oly rumours from dpreview....
1)just found this information in a reliable German forum. -E-500 is NOT the successor of the E-300. This one will come in spring 2006 -In autumn 2006 the E-1 successor will come - Bodies from two (!) other manufacturers pana + ? will come in 2006, too. heinz 2)Last saturday I went to Sonimag in Barcelona. About the Oly stand it was very nice: you could touch the E-500, and the best lens: 150mm f:2, 300mm f:2.8, 35-100mm f:2, 7-14 f:4 but 90-250mm and 35mm macro There was a speaker showing the benefits of E-500, it was very funny because he was using a big plasma TV and when he talked about the dust remover system of Oly, he used a big brush and tried to clean the plasma TV (as it was the sensor) showing what you need to do if you use other manufacturers DSLR... it was very very funy. About news I talked with some Oly guys there, and they said they haven't information and/or are not allowed to say, but some things I got: Next E-x will be in spring (PMA?) and won't be the E-1 succesor, it will be something in the middle between high-professional level and entry level. Probably an E-xx (remeber other threads talking about three lines of bodies: E-X, E-XX and E-XXX). This body will 'test' the new technology of oly: - new sensor technology (they talked about three CCD's = fuji technology?) - in-bulit body stabiliser system - new electronic system than save weight, as E-500. I was talked also about hydrogen cells in the new professional body (E-3?), that allows more power to the camera and new posibilities in autofocus, speed, stabilization and so on. Here the link with the oly partner for that: http://www.qinetiq.com/... .../2005/3rd_quarter/hydrogen_fuel_cells.html I don't think it will be ready for E-3 but I think it will be the future line in portable technology devices.... I made some bad photos I'll try to post soon. Best regards from Spain! -- Sergio Ballester Valencia - Spain |

i hope they use something like the Foveon. i was thinking in line of having the first front layer all green pixels, the 2nd layer is blue & red pixels & the last layer is meant to capture highlights & blownout skies. so the new E wud have high rez w/o the noise & really sharp images & at the same time boast the DR by another 2 stops or more.
well anyway, u guys want rumours, i give u more rumours!! the new E900!! http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/re...ssage=15376808 and also the next big E, the E-5 http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/re...ssage=15377734 have fun tingling ur tongue!! ![]() |

I admit that one of the cameras I was seriously looking at before going for the E-300 was the Sigma SD10, so Foveon would be a welcome addition.

Hi There,
IMO, the E5 rendition bears too strong a semblance to the D2X. Great PS work nonetheless. I believe Olympus has a great sense of pride & ability in creating products that is distinctive yet identifies with the company. See if you can make out any giveaways :-) For comparison, please refer to sample D2X image. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/Niko...lroundview.jpg I hope the mods won't move this thread to the Nikon forum :-) Cheers, |

the "E5", the "5" obviously stolen from "E500". look at the shadow on the left & right of the "E5". ![]() |

One more 4/3 manufacturer? It is either Fujifilm or Sigma. Sigma very likely as it means they will bring the Fovean sensor with them. Fujifilm only if they are really sick of using old and tired Nikon bodies but will be nice. ![]() |

If I may ... the humble 35mm F3.5 Macro actually does life-size 1:1 by 4/3 measurements ie in 135 format, it has an image magnification of 2:1 out of the box ! Wow ! http://www.olympus-europa.com/consum..._3_5_Macro.htm Yet another gem to look forward to :-) Cheers, Last edited by chancy; 11th October 2005 at 05:31 PM. |

what it lacks in speed, makes up for in magnification. |
