If you are refering to Olympus ZD lenses, the ZD 50mm ED F2 Macro and the upcoming ZD 35mm F3.5.

You can also use the EX-25 on some of ZD lenses to take macro. Some of our friends here shoot marco with this setup and are able to get very good result.

There are also quite a number of Zuiko OM macro lenses for you to choose from but you need an adapter to mount the lens onto the E-300.

Hope this help.

With the ZD50 and EX-25 you'll be able to see the hairs on insects. Anything more will be considered Microscopic Digital Photography

Olympus Singapore issue the OM-4/3 adapter "FREE" on two seperate exercise but now the adapter is no more issue FOC. You have to pay for it, even in the US.

I have not ideal how much it cost. Maybe someone here can help answer this question, anyone???

The ZD 50mm f2.0 Macro retails at about S$900
The EX-25 is S$250.

A baby mantis, no longer than a 5 cent coin (50mm f8.0, 1/100s, ISO 320)

The macro is also a very good portrait lens:

(50mm f4.0, 1/125s, ISO 400, EV -0.3)

I simply love this lens. I think, you will too...

Hi ykkok,

What is your working distance for the mantis shot?

Thanks.

As close as I can get. The lens was about 20+ cm away from the subject (can really remember very clearly). This little creature was very active and easily intimidated by my lens. It's a cropped picture from the original.

So let's say one is using the EX-25 with a zoom lens, say the 40-150mm, will he have a better working distance than someone with the 50mm macro, assuming we're taking the picture with the mantis filling the whole frame?

Sorry for asking so many questions about taking macros recently, but with the absence of equipment, I would like to understand for myself, the best options of taking decent macros within a limited budget.

Thanks.

I think the end effect will be about the same, ie. regardless of working distance, how much the macro subject fills the frame will be about the same. However, the 50mm macro has the advantage of being much faster(F2.0!), better bokeh and definitely sharper. It also burns a much larger hole in your wallet!

You need higher magnification factor. 40-150 with EX-25 don't give you enought mag. factor. The 50mm f2.0 gives you 1:2 and the new 35mm f3.5 macro will give you even better, at 1:1.

50mm f2.0 with EX-25, is 1:1
35mm f3.5 with EX-25, is 2:1
50-200mm f2.8-3.5 at max zoom is about 1:4, but with EX-25, it's close to 1:2.

You may want to check each lens's mag factor from Oly site.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

i have the sigma lens, and i supppose it's workable but i would think that image quality would'nt be as good... if working distance is'nt a problem the 35mm macro should be an excellent lens, not to mention relatively cheap too...

As far I can see this 35mm F3.5 Marco should be ard 350~400 SGD.

As for its focusing, it should be much closer. This Lens can be a MUST GRAB item.

As far U can compare the differences on the MTF to its 50mm F2 Marco counterpart.

The straighter the lines, the better.
