Notice to Owners of Sony Digital Still Camera, Camcorder, CLIÉ Handheld Computer and Professional Camcorder (DVCAM format)

03-10-2005

Thank you for your support and patronage of Sony products.

It has recently come to our attention that a limited number of Sony products that incorporate an image sensor device, or CCD, manufactured from October 2002 through March 2004 may exhibit the following condition:

When the product is used in camera mode, the LCD panel and/or electronic viewfinder exhibits either a distorted image or no image.

We have determined that this condition only occurs to a limited number of units, but may be accelerated if the units are exposed to high temperature and humidity environment.

In our efforts to ensure customer satisfaction, Sony will offer free out of warranty repair to the owners of applicable products exhibiting the above-mentioned condition caused by the image sensor device.

For further information on the applicable products and the repair service, please click on the following links to the respective product categories:

*Digital Still Camera
*Camcorder
* CLIÉ Handheld Computer (PEG-NZ90/G and PEG-NZ90/H)
* Professional Camcorder (DVCAM format)

Thank you for your understanding of this situation.

quite surprised no one took notice of this..
according to "sauces" many other brands use the affected sony ccds. but the one quiet brand is a very prominent one.

I am one of the "victim" of the CCD problem. In april/may, i went to reapir my sony U20 because of this problem and paid $84 for it. The service ppl told me that it was a wear and tear problem. And i was surprised that i used my U20 much less than my trusty 707. And got more "wear and tear"??? In the end, i still paid $84 bucks for it...
Called Sony, hope to get a refund from them.

Any people, paid for the CCD repair? What are ur experiences?

so will they still charge the $84 repair charge? and $10+ assessment charge?
i dun think they shud charge since the faults lie in them.

and so if say my f717 gets replaced with another ccd, will it still have the same problem?

The $84 includes assessment charges as well. Today i went to wisma and produced my receipt to get the refund. So people who have paid for the repair can get the fees back. I asked if the same occurances will happen again. They said they give 5yrs warranty for the CCD. I was shocked! or i hear wrongly? Is it 5mths or 5 yrs. Haha...

i have similar problems recently. see a black purple cast on my image after the shot. LCD b4 the shoot looks fine. if i dont send for repair, does it mean it will spoil sooner or later? been using for like 1 yr, but it is now that is really happening.
