Liverpool FC part company with Brendan Rodgers

Liverpool Football Club has announced that Brendan Rodgers will leave his post with immediate effect after having his contract terminated. The process to appoint a new manager is underway.

The Northern Irishman joined Liverpool FC in June 2012 and helped the club mount a memorable title challenge in his second season, as well as helping to develop many exciting young players. LFC's ownership have paid tribute and thanked Rodgers for his contribution.

In a joint Fenway Sports Group statement, Principal Owner John W Henry, Chairman Tom Werner and President Mike Gordon said:

“We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Brendan Rodgers for the significant contribution he has made to the club and express our gratitude for his hard work and commitment.

“All of us have experienced some wonderful moments with Brendan as manager and we are confident he will enjoy a long career in the game.

“Although this has been a difficult decision, we believe it provides us with the best opportunity for success on the pitch. Ambition and winning are at the heart of what we want to bring to Liverpool and we believe this change gives us the best opportunity to deliver it.

“The search for a new manager is underway and we hope to make an appointment in a decisive and timely manner.”

Truly strange timing to sack Rodgers. It seems to me that the conspiracy theories about FSG afraid that Klopp would accept a deal with another club soon i.e. Chelsea prompted them to sack Rodgers now than later. More so, it happened just when we start to see Liverpool playing better upfront. Liverpool has been a selling club of some time now, to blame Rodgers for underperforming does not paint an accurate picture. If there was a weakness with Rodgers, it would be an inability to attract big players, and it isn't even his fault. FSG should be aware of this when they signed him.

Well said... the man wasn't even in charge of purchases (on another note: Houlier lost his job for finishing 4th, Benitez was fired and now he is managing Real... maybe being a football club owner requires a certain amount of money and madness...)... but anyway, onward with the team and the new manager YNWA.

Just be mindful, he is not going to create any miracles. His last season with Dortmund was a disaster. At the end of the day, he still needs a good striker, something Rodgers was also desperately in need of. In addition, the german league is nothing compared to how football is played in England.

Don't set your hopes too high.

How Klopp fares against top premiership club boss..

    Louis van Gaal P4 W2 L2

The pair met four times during Van Gaal's two seasons at Bayern Munich between 2009 and 2011.

The current Manchester United boss enjoyed a 5-1 victory in their first confrontation before winning 3-1 away from home to do the double over his rival.

Klopp got revenge the following season, though, with a 2-0 home win and a resounding 3-1 away victory later on. Van Gaal left Bayern before the end of that season and his replacement Jupp Heynckes could not stop Klopp from securing his second consecutive Bundesliga title.

    Manuel Pellegrini P2 W1 D1

A 3-2 victory in the Champions League quarter-final second leg in 2013 against Manuel Pellegrini's Malaga came after a 0-0 stalemate in the first leg.

Undoubtedly one of Klopp's most dramatic games in charge at Dortmund, his side were 2-1 down going into injury time in the second leg.

Marco Reus and Felipe Santanta popped up to book a place in the semi-finals, where they would go onto beat Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid.

    Jose Mourinho, P4 W2 D2 L1

Klopp's Dortmund produced one of the most memorable European performances of recent times when the Robert Lewandowski-inspired Germans trounced Mourinho's Real Madrid 4-1 in the Champions League semi-final first leg in 2013.

They lost 2-0 in the second leg but Dortmund went through anyway and Klopp beat Mourinho again the following year in the group stages.

Dortmund won 2-1 at home but Mourinho clawed back some dignity with a 2-2 draw at the Bernabeu.

    Arsene Wenger P6 W2 D1 L3

The only Premier League manager who has the edge over Klopp and Wenger has met him more than any other.

A draw and a defeat for Klopp in the 2011/12 Champions League group stage saw his side finish bottom.

Two years later they were drawn together again and both sides won their away fixtures. They also met last season and recorded home victories against each other.
