After reading the announcement over at dpreview about the upcoming Fuji F11, it got me thinking whether to switch over for my use. I am quite happy with my FZ5 except that I am limited to ISO100 for "noise-free" pics. I've able to overcome this problem by buying an slave adapter and external flash. But then members of this forum suggested not to use direct flash towards my 2 month old baby.
I know I'm going to miss the 12x zoom but while my baby is still very young I don't have much use for the zoom except to take better potrait shots. Most of the time I just take indoor shots in my apartment in which the lighting is not so strong so the high ISO capability of the F11 will come in very handy. It has manual controls so I can still get a little creative and it's smaller too. My plan is to dispose of my FZ5 when F11 comes out and buy FZ5 or Pana's newer model in 2-3 years when my kid has gone to school and the 12x zoom advantage can be maximized. I was hoping Fz5 to be easy for me to take baby pics and use it till my son reaches grade shool. Obviously, these two cams are in different class but for my needs (i.e. take pics of my son), the F11 seems more suitable. What do you guys think? Should I do it? |

Do it! Go for F11. Keep the Fz5 for zoom and use the F11 for low lightshots.

If u want nicer protraits, some behind the scene work needs to be done. Set up your shoot near windows. Even when ur child is older, try to bring him/her closer to the window for games or reading session. Taking pictures lighten up by window lights are very natural. Lastly try borrowing those children portraiture books from the libraries, they should be able to guide you thru the sequence of shooting children using window lighting. These are some samples of my works with children using window lighting. |

Thanks for your opinions guys.
Xing, your gallery looked great. Unfortunately, I still live in a an apartment which doesn't have a decent window and I get home mostly at night time already so not much opportunity to take day shots except weekend. I'll wait for the reviews and pricing of the Fuji F11 to come out next month before making the shift... Sorry this may be off topic but does anyone here know if my external flash set up will work with the F11 considering it doesn't have full manual controls but only shutter and aperture priority? |

Best is have both cameras
hee hee.. the FZ5 always hooked up to a tripot, while the F11 is the portable one that goes with you everywhere. |
