Really? I didn't know that. The B&H guys didn't say anything about it.

Does CP carry the full Gitzo range, esp the Explorer series?

Would appreciate if I could get a hold of the prices of the new CF tripods before I return to SG.

Alright, digging up an old post.

CP called me yesterday to inform me the replacement of the 1227 MK2 is in.

Went down to look at it and compare with a 1227 MK2. The new model is 1257.

    • 6 layered tripod legs on 1257 vs 4 layered on the 1227
    • 2" shorter on 1257 vs 1227 (add ballhead, add camera, I still have to bend to see the VF on the 1257 )
    • 1257 is lighter than 1227
    • 1257 has turn controls to prevent the legs from turning when unloosening the locks, it can only retract and extend at one angle
    • 1257 centre column is shorter than the 1227
    • 1257 hook comes with a spring pulling the hook in

Sigh, the 1227 fits my height, but the 1257 lowered by 2".

They called me up too but I haven't had the time to go down and take a look. I think the price was in the region of $900??

So in your opinion, do you think the 1257 is an improvement over the 1227 MkII?
