Default Prosumer vs DSLR

After selling off my DSLR system, I got myself a small little "P&S" DC to go diving with. I have seen excellent results with it and i wanted to see if I would be happy with one to replace the bulkier DSLR.

After a week of diving with my little camera, I think the DSLR is still tops. Some observations I would like to share:

1) Strobes: 2 are better than one. Bulk head syn cord connection is better than optically triggered.

2) Size: if u intend to dive with dual strobes, there is really very little difference in size between a DSLR and Prosumer DC.

3) Balance: My old DSLR felt more balanced and "lighter" in water. Don;t ask me why. Just felt that way

4) Versatility: this is one area the DC comes out tops. I can switch between WA and macro effortlessly underwater.

5) Battery life: Although i have to change my battery after every dive, it doesn't really bother me that much. Of course, being able to shoot the whole day without opening the housing would be great!

6) Insurance: The max claim per item under normal travel insurance is $500. For a DSLR system, I don't know what u can replace with the $500 upon a flood. Probably the battery, memory card and perhaps a second hand 60mm macro lens. Different for my DC. Can always buy another without much additional cost with the insurance money should your luck runs out.

7) Viewfinder vs LCD: contrary to popular belief, focusing with the smaller viewfinder on the DSLR is easier for me than on a LCD. Focusing is also faster and better in low light on a DSLR, although a focusing light would help both systems immersely.

and lastly, if you are optically triggering dual strobes, best that the two are of the same make, same model. Took me a while to get used to having a S&S on one side and an Ikelite on the other....

I'm gonna miss my Video mode. For a guy who dives only about 30 dives a year, i really don;t know where is the justification in getting the system.
