Thumbs up MO: Cheapest Ever Studio Lighting Kit

Introduction
I'm organising MO for this cheapest ever studio lighting kit. It actually cost lower than a 2nd hand strobe! (e.g. Canon 420ex). The items are heavy, so goes to shipping cost. I'm able to get for you at this price because thru mass order, the weight can be justified for shipment thru forwarder rather than using courier.

MO Terms
Target order: 10 sets
Warranty: Although failure of slave flash (Item 1 below) will be very slim, I'll warranteed it for 2 weeks, 1 to 1 exchange
Payment: Full payment in advance. Will pm payment instruction when I'm ready to order
Delivery leadtime: 2-3 weeks upon MO close, or could be earlier but please don't chase me
Price:
Item (a) Studio Lighting Kit (Item 1 to 6 below) - S$198 (including delivery)
Item (b) Light Tent (Item 7) - S$60 (including delivery)
Item (c) Light Tent (Item 8) - S$35 (including delivery)

What you get from the kit:
  1. 2 x Slave Flash - Rated at 40ws. Guide no. ISO100 @ 26m (see below for explanation)
  2. 2 x 3 meter synchronising cord
  3. 2 x AC swivel adapter
  4. 2 x light stand (extendable - max height 2 meter)
  5. 2 x 33 inches soft umbrella
  6. 1 x hotshoe adapter (to connect the camera to trigger the slave flash via PC Sync outlet, thou it can be triggered by the camera flash too)

Optional (can also be purchased without the lighting kit):
  7. S$60 - Light Tent (75 by 75cm), comes with 4 (red,blue,white & black) background sweep and a carrying bag
  8. S$35 - Light Tent (30 by 30cm), comes with 4 (red,blue,white & black) background sweep and a carrying bag

Descriptions
  • The lighting kit looks similar to the picture above, but with translucent soft umbrella instead of silver reflective umbrella.
  • The slave flash has a power light, ready light, flash light sensor and a test button.
  • The umbrella produces a soft effect making the subject very pleasant.
  • The AC swivel adapter connects the light and the umbrella to the light stand.
  • The hotshoe adapter let you connect the camera to trigger the slave flash via PC Sync outlet, athough it can be triggered by the camera flash.
  • The optional light tent enables you to shoot products professionally coupled with the studio lighting kit.

How is the flash triggered?

with Cord/Cable
  • Connected to a camera equipped with PC Sync outlet and triggered by clicking the shutter of the camera without firing the on-camera flash.
  • For camera without PC Sync outlet, you may use the (included) hot-shoe adapter with PC Sync outlet (Item 6 above) to connect to the slave flash.

without Cord/Cable
  • It can also be triggered by the camera build in flash. There is a build in flash sensor in this slave flash.
  • Please note that this slave flash will be triggered on first flash. Some digital camera will fire a preflash to measure its white balance before the main flash, which will cause premature trigger of slave flash
  • In this instance, you'll need to disable the preflash (possible only on some camera) or set the flash to manual mode if you're using an external strobe (like Canon EX550).
  • My Metz flash works with Manual and Auto Mode. ETTL fires preflash and don't work.

How bright is the slave flash and how far is the range?

It is Rated at 40 watt second, guide no. ISO100 @ 26m. Where Distance x Relative Aperture = Guide Number. At this specs, the power is more than enough for most indoor photography.

E.g
if the subject is 2m from the flash, at ISO100, the aperture of f13 will give you the correct exposure (2m x f13 = 26). Open up 1 to 2 stop with soft umbrella installed.

I didn't check the brand. Each part of the kit are from different manufacturer. Some dealer mix and match them together and name their own brand (OEM).

This is a standard E27 screw bulb. Probably in 5 years time, you'll get better one in the market with same E27 screw base

In fact, this is a very common bulb. I came across many overseas supplier/dealer carry it. Just no one bring in to Singapore so far.
