Need Recommendations For Namecard Printer

hi guys,

need to print a name card for my hall committee..

looking for those stylish laminated cards. think the term is called offset printing or something. looking for a matt finish

walked abt in peace centre today. typically was quoted a price of $28-$35 for 100pcs

need to print 5 different names(but same design) at 200pcs each.(so total qty 1000pcs)

would be glad if anyone can share their contacts or even have quotes based on experience. any experiences in printing at CitySquare, JB?

would probably be one sided. but would like the other side of the card to be the colour of the background. would it be considered 2 sided?

Hi Wainism,

If the price you were quoted for was for offset printing, then it sounds quite cheap. Offset normally costs a bit more than digital printing as they have to create the design on a plate before using those plates for printing. The advantage is that the final quality is nicer. The last time I did my cards via 1 colour (double side) offset printing, it cost me abt $100 for 200pcs with matt lamination. With offset printing, economies of scale apply, ie if you print larger quantities it will be cheaper. However, I don't think you will be able to enjoy those economies of scale with namecard printing because the print quantity is quite small (they normally go in terms of 10,000s, and just to warm up and calibrate the printer for printing they already waste 100s of sheets of paper)

Going by your design, it looks like a one colour print provided you convert your photo to monotone in photoshop to ensure that the black and white photo is not being made up of RGB colours. The number of sides of the print depends on how many sides the printer has to print on. ie if your paper is green in colour, then the back of your card will be green. This won't count as one side of the card, so your print will only be one-sided. So in the case of your current design, the back of your card will be white because the base of your card design is white, and offset printers can't print white as far as I know.

The printer will only charge as a 2 colour if your paper is white, and you choose to print black text and eg green background on it.

If you want to go for colour prints, you could consider going for digital printing. The printers they use are 4 colour anyway, so there is no difference in price if you have 1 colour or more than 4 colours.

Hi, consider normal printing instead of offset printing. The cost of offset printing is really high as it cost up to 1k just to make the plates required. They're only cost effective for big companies that print up to 5k or more cards.
