After solving the mirror dust yesterday, found a black dot when I look thru
my D70s view finder today morning. Thought was dosut on the mirror or CCD but after a few shots of pic, the dust is in my view finder. It don't appear on the test pic but feel uneasy with the dust. Anyway to clean it my self? If got to send to NSC, will just bear with it and hopping it will move off.. ![]() |

blow air onto the area ABOVE the mirror..... that dust is sitting there and giving you a nice shioluette of itself in the viewfinder

Had that problem a few months ago with my D70. NOt only was it some dust particle but I guess it was somewhat sticky too as blowing it hard with my rubber blower just could not dislog it from my viewfinder screen. So I took a cotton bud which I wet with some light cleaning alcohol and then gently without using much pressure to slowly rub around the viewfinder screen. I try never to apply much pressure on the wiping. It will take time but this is better then if you apply too much presure and you stratch the surface. It is a practice in patience really. The liquid blur the viewfinder abit ( when you look at it through the view finder...don't panic) and as I rub till all the liquid has evaporated, some parts were abit blur..so I exchange cotton bubs (did this with another 2 more buds) the view clears as each successive clean bud excahnge to pickup stains, dust..etc. By the time I use the last bud, I not only got the viewfinder clean but the dust particle was no longer there. Could not find the dust piece so I guess it might have been dissolve by the light alcohol or picked up by one of those cotton buds and has dropped off. I would strongly think it over before you do this though. For me, it was my own camera and I did it know full well what can happen and I am willing to accept the outcome. I did the same thing with my CCD too which I use a specially modified lint cloth to brush and clean up my CCD twice now to great result. BUt then again I have done some self cleaning and maintenance with my SLRs and lens for many years so I am very careful with how I go about doing it. If you are not confidence of doing so, it would be advisable to take it to the shot to get it clean up and pay the fee for peace of mind. |

Is there any focusing screen to make the viewfinder looks brighter than normal D70s' focusing screen? Thanks! Arto. |

the grateful thing is the D50/70/100 has E-grid on demand, selectable via menu options, while the D2 doesn't ![]() |

Actually, I've had dust on the insides of the focusing screen b4. So dusty, I got frustrated and decided to try to clean it (hands and eyes itching ). There is a metal wire frame that holds the focusing screen with an A shaped "handle" sticking out somewhere on the front. You can use a small tweezer to unlatch the frame and the focusing screen falls out. There is a notch that protrudes from one of the corners of the focusing screen. Remember that corner as it'll be important when putting things back! Be very careful removing the focusing screen, as the surface is matt (textured) on one side and applying pressure on the surfaces will scratch/deface the screen. Use a brush and blower to remove the "elephants" and put the screen back on. Clean the butt of the prism while you're at it. After all the cleaning is done, carefully put everything back in place.Disclaimer : This is just for info only. Do this at your own risk!!! If your cam is still under warranty, I would advise against cleaning that involves taking things apart. Cheers! |

Nope, the D100 screen is only available at the service center, I've never attempted to change the screens before as it has what I need, I only changed a friend's D2HS screen to the e-screen before. Hee.
