for me, it is either:
a. luck- being at the right place at the right time with the right gear and the right camera setting b. the subject is gorgeous. fantastic landscape, fantastic qlty of light, fantastic looking subject... etc i always feel that landscape photography is 90% luck and 10% planning. the fact that the pic turned out great was that you took care/effort to capture it properly. the photographer had done nothing to make the landscape as breath-taking as it is..... |

Ckiang,
would it be fair if i say that a little bit of each apply? Some pictures do tell a story. Some look simply gorgeous (may it be landscape or person) to start with. A healthy dose of luck would help.... Being technically proficient is important of course, but my personal point of view is that it shouldn't get in your way of one's style... ![]() Just my 2 cents. ![]()

Yah, I tend to agree it's a combination of the vairous factors that make a good photo. Very often, it's not rigidly stuck with just one or even two reasons.
For landscape photography, it can be a simple matter to reproduce what an expert has taken but it all depends on what the topic is. Generally, I think it's not as simple as putting your tripod where someone like Ansel Adams had left it and expect the same results. I'm not just talking about lighting but also viewpoint. For example, if you want to take a picture of a mountain, there can be many different places to do so. You can move from just a few miles to literally a hundred miles to get the shot that you want! Agree? |
