Yo Don, Try the high key mode tomorrow. It prevents the water and white boats from overexposing. Your shots are pretty good
. My first time panning too. I tried keeping the boat's number or a logo within the centre focus box as I moved the camera along with the boat.Last edited by reno77; 18th September 2005 at 12:21 AM. |

for first time panning, they're pretty decent...
![]() I think framing is the bigger issue because the marina bay background sucks big time. I'd suggest shots of the boats when they fly would be more interestin (all CSers have almost the same panning stuff) since U're halfway there with the panning shots, g'luck tomorrow man... Thanks for the comments, the first looks soft. Will try the highkey tomorrow hehe.
The flying part pretty hard to catch. Will try harder tomorrow. ![]()

Settings are only 1 aspect of shooting panning shots. Set to an appropriately slow shutter speed, AI servo focusing, and the rest is up to the photographer.
Simply, acquire (your subject), track, (shutter) release, follow through. Miss one phase, miss your pan shot. |

Actually was thinking of using AI Servo + slow shutter later + IS mode II later. Hope can get some real panning shots. Thanks for the advise. ![]()

Hey mate,
Looks like you've improved your panning shots a lot better today. Nice ones there. |

The diagonal lines in a number of the pictures are jagged - a hint that the images may have been over-sharpened.
