What do you think: who's fault?
What do you think: who's fault?
Call me bias...when it's involving a Taxi....its gonna be..50-50......it's bull to say we can't have cyclist on the road...many other countries have no problem for them to co-exist....we seriously need to look into driving behaviour and graciousness
How can it be 50-50 when its the fault of the cyclist in the first place ... ?
If the taxi is at fault , then I think no need video evidence .. all motorist can dump their in-car record when they hit a cyclist.
Certainly, all road users could afford to be more gracious in sharing the roads, but this particular incident looks like an example of poor cyclist behaviour/judgement.
This cyclist did not await a safe opportunity at all and violated traffic law.Vehicle making right turn at road intersection or junction
8.—(1) The driver or rider of a vehicle stationary at or approaching a controlled intersection or junction of roads and wishing to turn to the right shall, as soon as the intersection or junction is open to the vehicle, move forward as near as possible to the centre of the intersection or junction and await a safe opportunity to complete the turn to the right.
(2) When turning the driver or rider of the vehicle shall proceed with due regard for the safety of pedestrians crossing the road.
ROAD TRAFFIC ACT (CHAPTER 276, SECTION 140)

Speculations about the cyclist are pointless, he was simply wrong in crossing the junction the way he did. Period.
I did not however express an opinion on who has the right of way or priority on the roads, or if I did come across as doing so, it was not my intention. Sorry.
Even if you are a skillful cyclist, any vehicle coming toward you, you CAN'T expect them to predict or read your (brainless) mind to react correctly and avoid collision as both parties comes towards each other in real time. How much time can you save by being reckless like that? Road warrior or Superhero complex?
If there were kids about who saw him do that and think it's cool to imitate him the next time they are at a junction and something bad happens? What if he escapes narrowly from hitting the taxi but now that taxis caused a pile up and he gets away from the scene in panic or just felt it is not his fault? So many scenarios can take place. The fact that taking a little longer time to make a right turn will avoid any risky situation for all using the road. Everyone goes home safe and sound. How hard is that to understand since anyone with a vehicle has to make right turns all the time using the road?
From a legal road use, making a right turn at a junction, you are suppose to give way to on coming traffic ( they have the right of way ) till you see a reasonable gap or no more vehicles are coming head on to you OR wait till a Green Right Turn sign comes on. THEN you make your right turn at that particular junction. If there was an accident and the insurance company finds out that you made that turn recklessly, you can say bye bye to your insurance claims and be careful of what road using law you broke or worst you cause a pile up at the junction. Don't think your bicycle will shield you from all blame.
It is so simplistic that it borders on retarded ignorance on such toxic persons in this internet age to not be aware they swim in a sea of social media apps, smartphone captures and cars with roving cameras. How much can you really get away with these days when you want to be a dick?
I have no love for such people who share my cycling passion or roads.

A good photo's 45% you, 45% practice & 10% equipment. A bad photo share the same ratio.
