Hi,
I found that if you put Vitacom Circular-Polarizer (67mm) on top of Hoya SMC UV (67mm), it will give vignetting on 18mm to about 30mm (on 18-70mm f3.5-4.5 D70s Kit lens). I haven't try to remove the Hoya SMC UV, since I don't like to expose the front lens even for a few seconds. But, I suspect is the Vitacom Cir-Pol will still give vignetting from 18mm to 24mm due to it's ring's depth. I can "tarik" a bit to use both filter combination only from 30mm to 70mm, but I feel not satisfied because I lost 18 to 30mm. Anyone know how to solve the problem? Thank you in advance. Arto |

2 solutions:
1. remove the UV filter and then put on the CP (in other words, don't stack your filters) 2. get a thin CP (eg Nikon Slim II CP) However, solution 1 is much more practical, simplier and cheaper. There is no harm taking out your UV filter. Just have to be careful doing so. |

Well if it's a 18-70DX I won't mind shooting without filters... but imagine if it's a 17-35...

Thanks for suggestions. 1. I did mention above that I think it is because the thickness of the Vitacom Cir-PL, even without using UV filter, it will still vignetting on 18mm - 24mm. I haven't try this, but I think it still have a vignetting. 2. Nikon is about $190 (if I am not wrong), while Vitacom is only $39. Price talking here Anyone have solution like do DIY to the Vitacom filter to reduce it's thickness? I am thinking to remove the thread on the front of Vitacom filter to avoid vignetting. Thanks! Get a 77mm nikon CPL II, using it with step up ring.

IMO, Vitacon CPL is quite thick.
Used to own a 62mm before and sold it off. Was told by a Cser that Vitacon is thicker than Hoya CPL but I got no Hoya to compare last time. |

anyone tried the B+W F-Pro MRC UV filter which is slimmer than normal UV filters and then stacking the CP onto it?

You even have trouble with lens caps with the B+W slim filters so they are supplied with a slip on cover. |
