Need a little advice from you guys... I've not taken wedding shots in ballrooms before, well not seriously anyways... I have this problem when taking night shots. The humans are bright enough, but the background is kinda dark. Now you guys know I'm using onboard flash at this point in time. Is it possible to use Flash Exposure Compensation for the onboard flash? If so, how should I go abt it? Pardon my question cos I don't know how that works.

Can I over-expose the shot by 2/3 stops and reduce flash compensation?

Any advice is greatly appreciated. For your info, I use a 350D and have ordinary f/4 or f/3.5 lenses.

I'm sure Phoon Huat would be able to help. I'd be a bit surprised if they couldn't.

never overexposed on digital, overexposed very hard to save, try ISO 800, f5.6 or f8, 1/30s if your hand steady, if not 1/60s, watch out for spot lights cast on them when march in or on the stage, bring up the speed if necessary.

Flash Exposure Compensation can use when necessary, be it + or -,

remember the ambient is control by the speed, try to work within you handheld speed, if backgound dark never mind, still better than all blur blur pictures.

    Hope this help.

i 2nd this, just remember to bring an extra batt along as the built-in flash zaps power, real quick.

when you arrived at the ballrom try some test shots with various settings and check your lcd and histogram.

I will take a reading of the background and fill in the flash. ISO 800 will be ok if print as 4R the refresh rate of the flash will also be faster.

I used ISO 400 cos I need to do 8R photos.

Hehehe... since I attended the morning briefing, I guess I can console the non-participants by sharing what I know.
