Newbie on DSLR D5D, so currently I still not very sure on what lens to acquire.
Currently I have: 18-70mm (kit lens) 50mm f1.4 for portraits and low light in door shooting. Now I am thinking of getting: 18-200mm as a walk around lens, athough the quality may not be got and slow in low light. But it's about a all in one lens. But I do need a tele lens now, the 18-70mm is not enough for me, the 18-200mm quality won't be good from 150-200mm range. So I am thinking of Sigma 70-300mm APO Macro or similar tele-lens like KM 100-300mm (not f4, heard is slightly better quality). But Sigma is a plus as it got macro, and I do need a macro lens. But both are not serious for sport shooting. May get a good wide angle lens in the future. Not needed currently unless I go travelling. Need to get a flash also, possibly 5600 for event/fashion shoot. Any comment or suggestion on my lens plan?

i prefer to have more specific range, like Wide, Mid Range, Telephoto for each of its needs. if you got a 18-70 dun get a 18-200 1st, get a 70-300 / 70-200, then get a 18-200 if you got extra spare cash. or if you into wide angles, get a 17-35, it will be better than the 18-70 at that 17-35 range, den get another 28-75, den can drop the 18-70 in dry cabi.

seriously, the KM18-70 is no match for both KM17-35 & KM28-75 previously released. once you used it, you'll feel like keeping the 18-70 in the dry cabinet. as for the tele lens, sigma 70-300 is a good start until one day you'll definitely change it.

Guys.. please teach me... i am thinking the same idea having a handy lens of 18-200.
so effectively 18-200 is it only 35-150? How bad is it actually? Don also commenting the same thing. Is it really no good at the edge of the range like that? What is the effect actually? I really have no experience... actually i'm thinking of having the 18-200 instead of the 18-70 (assuming 5D have body only, have body only right?). |

Thanks for the replies, currently still don't know how toappreciate the real quality of the lens and the output --> photo, and not sure it justify the price or not, although I do aware the kit lens quality is definitely cannoot compare to those specific range.
But I do afraid I am moving too fast and buying too much . I also can't think of bring all the lens out everytime and so they won't be much utilised. The 18-200mm do come in hand for day to day shot, though the quality may not be very good. How does the Sigma 17-35mm EX f2.8-4.0 at B&S compare to KM 17-35mm one? Seem like a real bargain, really Tempted. So the plan is 18-200mm 50mm f1.4 70-300mm macro Otherwise, the plan would be: 17-35mm 50mm f1.4 70-300mm macro these would cover quite a big range but miss out the 36-70, but hope the 50mm will help. Which would be better? I can only imagine myself to bring 3 lenses out most for shooting (plus flash later)

the 2x is mostly used on the 70-200 f2.8, cos its bright enough to slow down to 400 f5.6, still acceptable.

like they say, the 50-500, 500 f6.3, x1.5 crop is 750mm f6.3, is not as good as the 600mm f5.6, but what you pay is what you get... 70-200f2.8 sigma about 1.6k, 2x sigma about 400? so 2k liao, 50-500 about 1.8k nia... and after all, you still can use your 70-200f2.8 for portraits.
