somehow i can't really link a dilapidated house to the couple ... their happiness contrasting with the stark setting don't quite work for me. the idea is 'cool' but the product do confuse my reading of the marriage. but i do like the first picture, except that i would have preferred that the couple be placed within a window frame rather than letting the column run directly in the middle behind them.

and i think this is good as well ...

Hi...yes...the notion of representing your wedding pics in saccharine sweet pics will appeal to most. However, there are couples and photographers who see beauty in the ruins of a once grand colonial mansion. Tho not the norm, trust that some find love among ruins a pretty romantic idea.

So do let such locations compete fairly with the grandeur of London, romance of Paris or chicness of New York... for as long as we see beauty in them, they are.

As for the composition of the first pic, I beg to differ too. I feel that the grandness of the Hall would have been lost if framed by a single window panel. In this instance, I personally felt that it would look better framed by the two window panels. However, thanks for sharing your views still. I look forward to more critiques and comments.

no problem

well ... i don't see the need to portray weddings in saccharine sweet settings, and i agree that there's beauty in places of ruins. but i find the need to carefully consider the image when putting wedding couples in a run down setting. i think #2 almost did it for me, but #5, #7 and #8 don't. the dirt and mess don't go together with the bride's expression/body language IMHO, the bride and the setting become separated, not communicating, like each in a different world. i find that disturbing for me. that's how i see it

the shot in the grand hall..is it crooked? maybe you want to turn on the grids in photoshop and check it out? or is it my eyes? heh...

I like the shots and this perspective cuz not many has really ventured into this idea of photography...it's always those nice places and such...finding romance and love among ruins...what can I say...nice!!

oh by the way, where is this old colonial building?

Wow! is all I can say, if I can get myself to produce 10% of what you can do, I'd be happy, thanks for sharing.

As for the first photo, I didn't care too much on technicalities just liked what I see and ask myself why I liked it? I guess because it has symetry and appears balanced.

I realise, sometimes "rule of thirds" does not need to be applied. I need to remember that, have been taught to always frame with "rules of thirds" that I forget I can break the rules if I want to. Your images reminds me of this.

Generally I like the shots and it's good effort but I hope you can watch out for the following to perhaps improve on the shots if they make sense to you:

#1, 4 & 12 - somehow the groom's more casual dressing don't quite match the bride's gown. I think it'll look better with the groom in tux but then again it's really a question of taste. Somehow this works with #15 by the pool side. Anyway I like #1.

#2 & 7 - watch out for the things above the bride's head.

#8 - a bit confusing on the subject; house or bride?

#9 - may work better with a slightly shorter tree (my opinion).

#11 - Groom in tux would be better but watch out for the spokes thru the head and neck and shot not too level.

#13 - Don't work for me with groom in shadow. Don't know the meaning for shot.

#16 - Bride walking away? Where's groom? What does the shot mean?

Hi Thanks for taking the effort...I will try and answer the simpler ones first...kinda in a rush...sorry. But oh...thanks for taking the time to comment too. Cheers!

= You are right abt the grooms clothes but we didnt really put much emphasis on that. I think its fine but could be and should be smarter and sharper with a suit or tux..

#2 & 7 - watch out for the things above the bride's head.

I think this is nit picking...sheesh...its not obvious is it? I always watch out for "growing items from the head altho sometimes a pic or two might escape my attention when I shoot, It will never escape in post production...

#8 - a bit confusing on the subject; house or bride?

Bride

#9 - may work better with a slightly shorter tree (my opinion).

May...but this is more dramatic... Thought abt it...I went for a taller tree. I have a cropped version. Not as nice in my opinion..

#11 - Groom in tux would be better but watch out for the spokes thru the head and neck and shot not too level.

Again you are nit picking...the spokes acts as a uniform backdrop... if its a pc or two poking thru i will be worried and it wont pass in post production... anyway...how would you suggest shooting this shot? Or would you abandon it altogether?

#13 - Don't work for me with groom in shadow. Don't know the meaning for shot.

Bride is more impt (for this shot)

#16 - Bride walking away? Where's groom? What does the shot mean?[/quote]

Each of us interpret a pic, poem, quote...picture differently... to me...its just a nice shot of the bride walking...cheers

Wait a min... I think I answered all...hahaha...sheeshh...
