Default D5D prob!

Hi guys,

Had a friend who bought a dynax 5d from the comex. Until now, he still cannot charge his batteries. He had gone back to HN to change the so called "faulty" batteries or chargers but it still exhibited low battery on his 5D. The salesman tested the batteries in their 5Ds (showing low batteries) and chargers and indeed the batteries were immediately cut off after 30 secs. He told me he first time charged his batteries for 8 hrs and I told him to stop charging for extra 30 mins more after the 1st full charge. He told me the same problem again.

For his case, I am either suspecting it's user problem or the camera. 3 trips and 3 batteries/chargers already dead. Anyone has a similiar experience to share? I am asking him to go back to KM service centre to have his 5D/battery/charger checked.

edit: btw just got a phone call from him that the power cord was never changed. HN denied to change becoz they said it very rare to have the cord spoilt. Now I am suspecting is the damn cord..

The cord is the standard 2 pins '8' figure socket, and most electrical appliances will use this cord. Can you ask your friend if he has the same cord used by other electrical appliances? Swop it if he has the cord.

The 5D uses the NP-400 battery, right? So assuming that the battery charger is identical to the 7D's, its power cord is just a normal figure-8 cord which you can buy from your local electrical store ... or you may even have one lying around the house somewhere from another electrical or electronic device. Just swap the cord and see if it makes any difference if you suspect it's faulty.

Looks like the catch is a little faulty. But sometimes it might be a user problem. Have u replaced the card before? Usually I leave the card in the camera... no point taking out...

I've only had my 7D for 3 days, and the weather has been rainy and gloomy, hardly ideal outdoor photography weather, so I've been shooting 99% indoors with fill flash, AF, image review set at 5s and using a battery sapping IBM 1GB Microdrive. I got approx. 250 shots before the 7D refused to turn on---was quite impressed with this battery performance (original KM NP-400 1,500mAh).

Wow! I assume that the flash u are referring to is the built-in flash?

Bought the D5D for about 3 weeks already, shoot about 3K (most cannot make it) of photos. Have the original one and the generic EG one, so far both charging also no problem, one battery usually last me 400-600 shoots, quite long lasting.

Fully charged mine for 8 hours for first time charging.
I could take 1.5 gigs of pic (mixture of raw+jpeg then jpeg only) before the battery flat out.
Used with couple of fill-flash, mostly outdoors.

Think Tokrot friend could have the set change 1 to 1 if it was
within 7 days or pehaps talk to the store manager (not the salesman).

Buying stuff from exhibition are always a matter of checking all the stuff within the show days. Very rush indeed if you cannot really spare the time. Then again, if any faults were discovered within the period, you can get it changed more conveniently.

Talking Re: D5D prob!

OK problems found!~.. he went back to HN and changed the entire camera and charger/batt/power cord and came back. He rang me up to say it was still the same prob~!

In the end, he found out that the so called low-batt was in fact not low battery. The low battery is indicated by red bar not the normal battery sign. In the end, he damn malu. I told him to read the manual but he just roughly read through.

so the moral of the story: READ THE MANUAL WITH UNDERSTANDING

I realised something about KM 5D, i need a spare battery ! i am using a 1G card inside, seems like the battery fits just nice for a 1G usage in 2 days, about 400 shots...40 percent with in built flash

I would say every camera/device will need a spare battery

If u dun use flash u probably can squeeze another 100 shots out of that battery...
