Default Fantasea Underwater housing spoilt?

Friend borrowed my underwater housing, Fantasea for Nikon CP2100 model. Went Manado, dived 100 feet, water went in already. SOS me, I also dont know want to do, I am not a diver.

This Fantasea housing dont last? This is the only 2nd time the housing goes to dive. Or I need to buy a new one for every diving?

Hi astin,

it could be a simple leak, tell your friend to check all the o-rings... and remember to lube them. 90% of leaks are user errors. including mine....

tell him to bring just the housing down. and on the first 5 meters look at where the water is coming in

Thanks for advise.
But too late, the Nikon Coolpix is already flooded, got to wait for friend to come back from Manado to Singapore and test again.

Most divers will not use the same housing after it has been flooded.
BUt you can have the housing sent back to the manufacturer to be checked
if it's ok pricewise.

Like waisj said, must of the time, it's due to carelessness of the user (not doubting your friend) and also maybe lack of proper maintenance of housing during storage.

Hoped your friend soaked the whole housing, opened, in fresh water after it floods
to prevent the salt from crystalising.

You can search this section of the forum for 'flood' and there were 2 threads that I started when mine was flooded. There are some info there which shows most often it is due to the O-ring.

I continue to use my housing after flooding because I know the reason of flooding (the O-ring was not put properly). With proper cleaning and making sure that I always put the O-ring and close housing carefully and checking it everytime after closing. Did not have any problem yet. *fingers cross*

austin : email Fantasea. I thik their hosuing comes with flood insurance for the digicam. As for the housing, send it back to them and see what they say.
